5 Tips to deal with anxiety

Anxiety is defined as a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. You could see the effects of anxiety on someones’ body throughout physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle knots. If you sometimes have trouble coping with anxiety, here are 5 tips to help you.

1. Go with the flow

First of all, you need to let go of the pressure regarding what you can’t control. It is hard not to know what the future holds. Especially when you are in a transitioning period. Whether it is linked to your work or personal life it can be very stressful. You might even wonder if you are taking the right decisions. Since you can’t predict the future, it is a waste of time and energy to create scenarios in your head. Most of the time, we tend to imagine the worse, which enhance our anxiety. So, to avoid this vicious circle, you need to say to yourself that you will be your best and focus on what is possible for you to control and don’t put your focus on the rest.

2. Stop obsessing over it

Stop obsessing over it because it nurtures your anxiety. If there is nothing you can do to change the situation you are in at the moment, then there is no point to give it your attention. You know, the more you think about a problem, the less likely you are to find a solution. You need to have some perspective and take the high ground. Take some fresh air. Meditation and breathing exercices can help. And you could simply try to keep yourself busy doing something to avoid overthinking.

3. Redirect your attention

As said previously, you are probably giving to much power to your problems without realizing it. That is the reason why you need to learn to refocus on the positive and the present. So refocus on yourself, on your loved ones, on what’s make you happy. If you feel anxious, you could probably see the effects on your body too. Do not hesitate to untie these knots on your back or shoulders by treating yourself with a nice and well-deserved massage. Do activities that help you find peace and quietness in all the craziness that is happening in your life.

You could actually create your own bubble of peace wherever and whenever you want to. Your brain does not distinguish what you imagine from what is real. That is why your thoughts and focus have such a huge impact on the way you will feel and act. You have to choose between complaining and saying that “everything is so complicated, you will not be able to handle the situation properly” or think about positive affirmations instead such as “I am handling it great, I know what I am doing and I have what it takes to make everything better”.

4. Take small actions

It is even more intimidating to make big plans and not knowing where to start. So do small things but do them as perfect as you can. This will help you visualize your progress and boost your confidence. It is also much more realistic and effective to proceed this way. Each small steps along the way counts. You will see your anxiety reduce sooner than later with satisfaction. Everything you do matter, so don’t look at the end result. Be patient, trust your skills. Although what you are experiencing right now is uncomfortable, it is probably not such a big deal and you’ve been through worse. When you don’t let your fear take control, you are more prone to eliminate the signs of anxiety and have a clearer vision of your plan at the same time.

5. Know that it won’t last

And yes, like everything in life, that period of time won’t last forever. So chill out. Life is made of ups and downs. You will see that something good will come out from this situation. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, doesn’t it? Thus, embrace the challenge. It will make you grow and learn about yourself and ability to be resilient. It will only be a source of anxiety if you let it. Take back your power, you are better than that. Also know that if life is putting obstacles on your road it means that you can overcome them. And the difference between someone who gave up and someone you got through it is often a question of mindset. You can from now on decide to have a positive mindset, no matter what. I am not saying it is going to be easy to change it from one day to the next, but exercising every day and trading the “I can’t” with “I can” in your vocabulary will give you a good start.
