Last year, I have been experimenting a lot to better my lifestyle and my mindset in general. I needed a fresh start and hence an assessment of my current situation. I had a new job, a new apartment, a new setting and therefore had to find a new routine. It is now time to take what I have learned and put it into practice by trying out the new habits that I think can work for me based on what I have tried and my personality. If you have a 9 to 5 job, building a routine can be a challenge let alone building a morning and an evening routine. But since 2020 will be all about achieving goals for you and for me, let’s begin and commit to healthy new habits.
To help you set your own routines, I wanted to share with you my normal morning and evening routines from Monday to Friday.
My morning routine: from 7.00 to 9.00 a.m.
- Do my bed
- Drink a glass of water
- Meditate for 2 to 5 min
- Read positive affirmations for 2 to 5 min
- Look at my vision board or visualize my goals for 1 min
- Read or listen to a podcast for 10 min
- Training/learning a new skill for 1 hour
- Write my top 3 MVPs (Most Valuable Priorities) of the day
- Wash up
- Go to work 20 min
Since a couple of months, I prefer not to take a breakfast on weekdays and take a snack with me to go to work if necessary instead. It is up to you if you want to incorporate it in your morning routine (e.g. you could read while having your breakfast).
The 3 MVPs are the 3 goals you want to achieve during the day. This can be doing a specific task at work, contacting a particular person or going to your post office to send parcels. With these 3 MVPs you will be able to set the tone of your day and have a sense of accomplishment at the end of it by having completed these 3 tasks. The most important thing is not their content but the fact that you managed to accomplish them.
You may have heard of vision boards. They are usually a collection of pictures and quotes, arranged on a large or small background, that represent your goals for the current year. This can be in paper or digital format.
My evening routine: from 5.00 to 10.00 p.m.
- Commute from work 20 min
- Sport/fitness at home for 1 hour
- Cooking for 30 min to 1 hour
- Diner for 30 min to 1 hour
- Blogging/writing/editing for 1,5 hours
- Read for 30 to 45 min before bed
I hope this can be a source of inspiration for you to create your own routines and mix it up if you prefer doing sport in the morning for example. You can also adjust it if you have to commute longer to go to work by reading, or identifying your MVPs in public transports for instance. That way you will not waste any time and can make your commute effective. The goal is to keep these routines for at least 21 days to observe real effects on you and your lifestyle. Are you up for the challenge? On my side, I will give you an update in 21 days. Stay tuned.
